CAMERAFLEX CINEFLEX 35mm Movie Camera User Manual !

Reprinted from our movie studio tech files in Hollywood.
Studio-bound, in LIKE NEW condition.
Sturdy cardstock cover.

It’s the 1944 50-page CAMERAFLEX 35mm User Manual,
for properly operating and maintaining a
CAMERAFLEX or CINEFLEX 35mm movie camera.

A CAMERAFLEX (or CINEFLEX) 35mm camera is a lightweight,
hand-held, easy-threading, reflex movie camera, manufactured
into the 1980s by the great CAMERAFLEX company of New York City.
It is an American copy of the legendary German Arriflex.

During WWII, the US government seized German patents,
and reverse-engineered the Arriflex camera.  Cameraflexes
were first available to the US Armed Forces.

Many types of person have shot 35mm movies with Cameraflexes,
drawn by low cost and good quality.

The Moody Bible Institute shot church movies for GIs, and
filmmaker Russ Meyer (of “SuperVixens” fame), shot his
girly movies, too. How’s that for a diverse group of users?

Russ Meyer with his Cameraflex.

(He learned to use it in the US Army Signal Corps.)

Cameraflex is pretty close to an Arriflex (circa 1940), with
some differences, but the same great spinning mirror shutter.

Cameraflex actually improved on the original Arriflex design,
in one way. Its motor either mounts beneath, or fastens onto
the side, where Cameraflex put another drive gear. Wonderful!

An Arriflex manual works for the Cameraflex, but there are
different dimensions and the Arri uses metric screw fasteners.

This is a rare wartime Cameraflex military manual.

You’ll love the familiar CAMERAFLEX CINEFLEX 35mm design:

  • Spinning mirror shutter
  • Remarkably steady claw-type movement
  • Magazines with integral drive sprockets
  • Camera shaped and balanced for hand-holding
  • Simple Threading

CAMERAFLEX 35mm cameras have shot many movies,
and are still in use, shooting many independent features.

  • Testing
  • Parts List
  • Viewfinder

It’s the 1972 26-page

ARRIFLEX 35mm BL Camera User’s Guide,

ARRIFLEX 35mm BL camera.

An ARRIFLEX is the legendary self-blimped,

even capable of high speed photography – 100 frames/second!

The Arriflex BL is still in use today, shooting many independent features.

It’s the 1970 65-page ARRIFLEX 35mm IIB / IIC Repair & Parts Manual, for properly operating and maintaining an ARRIFLEX 35mm IIB or IIC camera.

An ARRIFLEX 35mm camera is the legendary
hand-holdable, lightweight, easy-threading, reflex movie camera, manufactured by the great Arriflex company of Germany.

First made in 1937, the Arriflex 35mm camera (and its variations) was probably the best-selling 35mm movie camera of all time.

Over 17,000 Arri IICs alone were made by Arriflex before 1978. (Not to mention many Arri copies and imitations made in China, Russia, and the US.)

The Arriflex 35mm II began manufacture in 1946. The IIA was introduced in 1953. The 35 IIBV (variable shutter) came out in 1960, and the 35 IIC was unveiled in 1964.

The 35mm IIB and IIC are improved models of the
revolutionary Arriflex 35mm design, with

  • Spinning mirror shutter
  • Remarkably steady claw-type movement
  • Magazines with integral drive sprockets
  • Camera shaped and balanced for hand-holding
  • Threading that is dead simple

The Arriflex 35mm cameras have shot many classic movies, and are still in use, shooting many independent features.

(Stanley Kubrick, shooting “Clockwork Orange,” 1970.)
